This was an unforgettable project for us. Jennifer and David were looking for a house that’s suitable for their adorable young sons, one of whom was born with a birth defect that affects his mobility. We found a ranch-style home with good great bones (plus an expansive flat backyard!) and got to work opening up the main floor, vaulting the living room ceiling, and adding a wheelchair ramp—in other words, completely customizing it to this amazing family’s needs.

CONNECT THE DOTS
We brightened up the dining area with this black and white printed wallpaper—you say polka dots, we say chocolate chip ice cream! And while it makes for a truly lovely upgrade, the real stunner in this room is the sizable dining table that was handcrafted (and hand-delivered!) by Jennifer’s father as a surprise to the family.
HERE COMES THE SUN
Jennifer was dreaming of a white kitchen, and we obeyed by installing white shaker cabinets, a white subway tile backsplash, and white quartz countertops. However! To avoid a complete washout—and to incorporate flow from the dining area and playroom—we added noncommittal touches of yellow in the decor. Vases, utensils, flowers, and even the brass hardware can be swapped out when it’s time for a change.
KNOCK ON WOOD
Wall-to-wall wood paneling? Pass. Rustic wooden accents weaved throughout the living room? Now we’re talking! To warm up the white walls and fireplace tile, we added solid hardwood flooring, a beautiful walnut mantel, and a wood-clad beam in the newly vaulted ceiling.
