They say you can’t go home again—but what you can do is renovate your parents’ house!
Drew and Jonathan’s parents, Jim and Joanne Scott, got the official HGTV treatment on the Bros’ new show, Don’t Hate Your House. It’s easily one of the most special reveals Drew and Jonathan have ever tackled, as their parents have been so supportive of the Bros and even relocated to California so they could be closer to their grandkids. Drew and Jonathan knew they had to make the Spanish-style bungalow perfect for Mom and Dad, and they didn’t cut any corners.
In fact, the makeover was such an event that it became a 2-part episode of Don’t Hate Your House! You can get tons of great details and photos of Jim and Joanne’s house tour in our recaps, but we didn’t stop there. Drew actually swung by Mom and Dad’s house recently to share an update on how they’re liking their new home, and to chat about their top spaces.
Jim and Joanne Scott’s House Tour Video
Since filming, Jim and Joanne have been enjoying every room, but there are some spots that are particular favorites. Joanne, for example, loves the kitchen which is complete with plenty of seating, prep space, and storage, which they enhanced even after the episodes were filmed. Fun fact: Joanne chose the cabinetry color, and her inspiration came from an unexpected source—Parker’s high chair!
Of course, a house isn’t a home without heirloom pieces. At Jim and Joanne’s, that includes a grandfather clock that’s traveled with them throughout their lives, as well as a “horse trail” sign from the property in Canada where Drew and Jonathan grew up. And we can’t forget an engraved cutting board from Drew and Jonathan’s brother JD that he made for their parents when he was a kid.
Drew also shows off his favorite features, like a photo of Jim and Joanne in one of their apartments in Vancouver that the Bros split into two frames. Other highlights include his mom’s art room, which showcases her favorite Western artist, plus paintings from Joanne. Then, there’s Jim’s specialty space stocked with guitars, Scottish touches, and his favorite chair.
There are way more incredible rooms Drew, Joanne, and Jim are showing off in this parents’ house tour, including the stunning primary suite (complete with broadswords under the bed), ADU, and backyard. So, watch the full video above for a complete top-to-bottom tour!
You may remember how we had a sneak peek of the details in our guest issue of HGTV Magazine. You can still buy that here, especially because it’s filled with plenty of Drew and Jonathan’s best-ever tips. In the meantime, these stunning shots of Jim and Joanne Scott’s house tour are worth admiring again.
Laid-Back Living Room
Now this is California dreaming. The natural light is absolutely stunning in Jim and Joanne’s living room. The neutral furnishings paired with natural elements like our Thurlo large hanging shade create a casual-chic balance. There’s also plenty of seating to host the famous Scott family game nights and the new floor-to-ceiling fireplace is a striking (and cozy) focal point. Plus, there’s the grandfather clock!
Family-Forward Kitchen and Dining Room
Drew and Jonathan love a big kitchen island, so of course they had to make that happen for their parents. The kitchen and dining room flow seamlessly into one another and the layout makes it easy for the whole family to hang out while someone’s prepping food or drinks. And is that a statement range we see?
Comfy, Cozy Bedroom
The primary suite is cozy, calming, and relaxing. Drew and Jonathan’s parents are resting easy on a Scott Living signature mattress, which looks amazing thanks to the wood bed frame and matching nightstand. But it’s the stunning geometric rug that really ties the whole room together.
