Drew Shares Inside His Eco-Friendly Home Upgrades
Paid partnership with Sunrun.
Drew’s house is the definition of a dream home. He and Linda renovated it a few years back, but they’re always making upgrades to better suit their family, which now includes their two kids, Parker and Piper. Some of the most important swaps Drew’s made recently are sustainable upgrades, like installing a Sunrun solar energy system to make his spaces ultra energy-efficient.
The sun is an amazing energy source. In fact, in one hour, the Earth’s atmosphere absorbs enough sunlight to power every human on Earth for a year. That’s a lot of potential! So Drew teamed up with Sunrun to incorporate a whole-home system that puts that big, bright star to work. Sunrun offers a suite of products including solar panels, EV charging, battery storage, and more, making it simpler than ever to weave this technology into residential spaces. Plus, certain states have rebates and tax credits, making it increasingly affordable, and Sunrun offers subscription services to help manage the costs, too. (You can learn more about options for your state here.)
In the video above, Drew also gives a tour of other changes he’s made around the house to be more eco-friendly. The kitchen, for example, now has an induction range which looks great, cooks great, and is safer for the kids to be around. He also has an EV charger, an electric heat pump, and he even disconnected the gas in his fireplace.
Another favorite feature of Drew’s is that he can monitor his energy production and usage remotely, so if something’s wasting energy, he can adjust accordingly. “Utility costs keep getting higher and higher, I have no control over what they charge for energy usage especially during peak periods,” he says. “The fact that I can control my energy consumption—I have the power coming from the roof of my home—that’s exciting to me.” Plus, there’s a battery backup—no blackouts here!
“I want to make sure my home is as healthy as possible for my family and I want to do the same for everybody else out there,” he says. “So if I can inspire you with a little bit of a tour of what I’m doing to my house, I’m hoping it can help with your home.”
