3 Men’s Style Trends for Fall

Stripes are always in, but especially this fall.ALL PHOTOS: TWENTY20

Feel that chill in the air? Here comes fall—and there goes your breezy summer wardrobe. Stylist Charlotte Jenkins, who works regularly with Drew and Jonathan, tells us the best men’s style trends for this fall and how to pull them off.

01

BUSINESS: POWER SUITING

Power suits are back in big way for fall, and they mean business. This trend embodies the finest menswear tailoring and brings a level of sophistication to the season. Look for monochromatic shades of navy, charcoal gray, hunter green, and black.

How to wear it: Suits are updated in powerful prints, with pinstripes leading the way. There are more three-piece suits and double-breasted jacket options for fall, so layer up with a bold striped shirt and power tie. (Yes, you can wear a pinstripe suit with a striped shirt—just ensure the stripes are different widths.) Add another level of luxury with a long cashmere overcoat.

SOCIAL: ’70S COOL

After focusing on the ’80s and ’90s for spring, we invite the decade of retro-cool back onto the fashion scene. Menswear staples in brown, camel, and jewel tones (think burgundy, mustard, olive, and navy) will elevate your off-duty look.

How to wear it: Swap your summer suits for tailored blazers in retro corduroy, rich velvet, textured tweed, and herringbone fabrics. Pair those with dark denim or wear the matching pant for a head-to-toe retro vibe. Underneath, go for a micro-printed button-up shirt (get quirky with mini stars, florals, botanical prints, or polka dots) worn unbuttoned with no tie, and top it all off with a brown leather bomber or moto jacket with shearling collar.

CASUAL: FLASHY ATHLETICS

The ever-popular athleisure trend gets an update by introducing bolder colors (like red, orange, yellow, and cobalt blue) and fun patterns. It’s young, fun, bright—and refreshing in a sea of blah winter clothing.
How to wear it: Swap your solid-colored sweaters for a bold patterned one instead (bonus points for a statement aprés ski–inspired print) or rock a cool tracksuit on weekends and while traveling. If you’re feeling bold, reach for a puffy jacket in a bright color or shiny fabric as your outerwear of choice.
