One of our favorite places to play out our decor style dreams is in the kitchen! Whether you have a small galley kitchen or a large space with enough room for an oversized island, the kitchen is where you can get creative with your style. Over the years, the Bros have designed and decorated a slurry of cooking spaces—from Jonathan and Zooey’s own Old Hollywood-inspired kitchen to the Bros’ Celebrity IOU makeovers that cover coastal to chic mid-century styles and everything in-between. But what do your favorite kitchen design styles say about you and your personality?

That’s what we’re here to uncover for you! Based on your style preferences, your unique color palettes, the type of finishes you have, and the furniture design you like, your kitchen design taste tells a story all its own. Maybe you love the look of a Spanish-style kitchen, or you might sway toward vintage appliances and colors for a retro vibe. Or maybe instead, you have a special mix of styles all your own! Whatever you go for, we’re breaking down six of the most popular here for you. Let us know what you think, and don’t forget to explore our socials for even more kitchen inspiration! You can follow us @DrewandJonathan on Instagram and YouTube. Now, let’s dive in.

Traditional

Traditional kitchens showcase materials like wood, iron, and granite. They embrace fine details and architectural molding or trimwork, and the color palette is usually neutral. If you love the look of a traditional kitchen, then you’re probably someone who appreciates the classics—in films, music, TV, or elsewhere. (We’ll bet you’re a big Nancy Meyers fan, too!) You’re organized and you find the beauty in a routine. You might be great at crafting the perfect dinner party, or planning your weekly game night with friends.

Modern

The modern kitchen style is fun because you can interpret it many different ways. Though “modern” and “contemporary” styles are often confused for each other, modern design primarily focuses on sleek elements, clean lines, and functional materials. If you go for the modern kitchen aesthetic, then you’re probably the first to hear all about the latest trends. You’re the one friends and family go to when they’re looking for the best restaurants and coffee shops in town! You also might love mid-century details. (Psst… If you like the way this kitchen looks, you have to see the other reveal pics from Chanel and Jeff’s episode of Don’t Hate Your House.)

Mediterranean

Mediterranean is one of those kitchen design styles that boasts a bounty of different shapes and textures. It usually features vibrant colors, Spanish-style pattern, rustic finishes, and pieces that feel collectable and curated. If you lean into this design, then you love to travel. You have a ton of treasures that you’ve found on your trips, and you’ve probably dreamt about (or plan to) move abroad. You are fun and lively, and you love to try new things.

French Country

French country design is elegant and earthy, with detailed elements and natural materials that create a vintage-inspired vibe. There are plenty of kitchen design styles out there that allude to French countryside, but it’s very distinct in its design—and so are you! You probably love your curated book collection, and you might even enjoy oil painting or crocheting as a hobby. Your Pinterest boards are your favorite place to be, and your friends trust you to be the honest source when they ask for an opinion on a style decision.

Retro

If you gravitate toward retro kitchens, you are definitely not afraid of color! In fact, bold hues and mismatched patterns are your love language. This is one of those kitchen design styles that’s just as classic as traditional design, but with a lot more playfulness. You embrace the vintage aesthetic in many areas of your life, and you likely have lots of thrifted pieces in your closet and around the house. You probably love the music from the ’70s and ’80s (who doesn’t!?), and you might even have a collection of cookbooks from that time.

Coastal

This Brother Vs. Brother season 5 reveal highlights the quintessential coastal kitchen vibe: nautical-inspired textures, stripes, blue accents, and natural wood tones. If this style speaks to you, then you probably love being by the sea. You might enjoy a water-based sport, like surfing, jet-skiing, or beach volleyball. You have a relaxed personality and you’re the one people go to when they want to feel at ease. Needless to say, you probably dream about (or actually do) live near the beach!
